Hello all! Lately, I have been arguing with myself over what dessert is truly the best dessert. Some days, I crave something particular, whether it be salty or savory. On other days, I want something completely different, covered in sugar and sweet as can be. My brain goes back and forth like crazy!
I was inspired to make a list of my top 10 favorite desserts. Obviously, this is subjective. However, since this is my blog, I am right.
This list is in reverse order, meaning my favorite will be shared last. I am going to be explaining why I love the desserts, the best ways to eat the desserts, and why they taste good. I hope you enjoy reading, and I encourage you to pick up something sweet!
The Best Desserts, Ranked
Brownies
Starting strong, we have the classic brownie. You can never go wrong with this dessert, but please notice how I chose to include a corner piece. The crust of the brownie is a crucial part of the dessert experience. Without the crunch of the crust, I do not believe brownies would make my top 10. Nevertheless, if you add a little crispiness to the outside of the brownie and it elevates the dessert to a different level. These are a crowd favorite and quintessential dessert, which is why they made my top 10. Pair it with some vanilla ice cream- youβre golden.
Apple Cider Donuts
Next, we have apple cider donuts. Nothing compares to a fresh, straight out of the oven apple cider donut on a fall day. They need to be warm and absolutely smothered in cinnamon and sugar. Yes, they sell these at chain stores like Krispy Kreme and Dunkinβ Donuts, but nothing compares to ones you can buy from a local farm. These fluffy, brilliantly tasting donuts are not to be passed up!
Chocolate Bombolonis
I had my first ever bombolini while studying abroad in Italy. There was a man on the street of my apartment who sold these late at night, freshly baked. We would all flock like moths to a flame to get our hands on one of these. For those who do not know, bomboloni are basically donuts with fillings- think of a Boston cream. Again, these are best served warmed and covered in sugar. I found myself craving these time and time again while in Italy, and I still crave them to this day. Bombolini are a truly special treat!
Pistachio Gelato
Next up, we have pistachio gelato. Now, you might be thinking, why not just say ice cream? Well, I will tell you why: Pistachio ice cream and pistachio gelato are very different. Both are tasty, but pistachio gelato is significantly better than pistachio ice cream. In my opinion, gelato is smoother, richer, and more flavorful than ice cream, allowing the pistachio taste to shine. I especially love when gelaterias include small pits of the pistachio nut within the gelato itself- it adds something special. The color may be a little off-putting, but the flavor is out of this world.
Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing and Chocolate Sprinkles
I think this is probably my most controversial item on this list so far. Critics will argue that this is too much chocolate. However, I disagree. A light, moist chocolate cake with flavorful, smooth icing and the crunch of a chocolate sprinkle is a treat I find myself craving. There is one bakery near me that makes this cake so excellently that I request it for my birthday every single year. Though this might be too much chocolate for some, this cake is a rich delicacy only the most mature palates will enjoy.
Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
We have officially made it to my top 5! Chocolate-covered strawberries are a cult classic. This item would be higher on my list if they were not as difficult to eat as they can be. I dislike biting into a chocolate-covered strawberry only to have it crack and separate within seconds. When executed correctly, this is a near-perfect dessert item. Theyβre easy to make and absolutely delicious, especially if you love the fruit itself. Writing about these makes me want them even more than I did before!
Cookie Dough Ice Cream
I know I just argued that gelato is better than ice cream, and I do still agree with that. However, nothing comes close to a scoop of cookie dough ice cream. This dessert is so incredibly delicious. I think this is because of the creaminess of the ice cream paired with the chewiness of the cookie dough. When the cookie dough bites are warm, Iβm in ice cream heaven. As someone who has had her fair share of cookie dough ice cream, I never get bored with this amazing sweet treat.
Baci Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Truffles
This is the only prepackaged item on my best desserts list, and itβs pretty high on the list. I do not have enough good things to say about Baci chocolate. Specifically, they're milk chocolate hazelnut truffles are some of the best pieces of chocolate I have ever tasted. What separates Baci from the rest of the prewrapped chocolate treats on the market is the full hazelnut inclusion. This highlights the flavor and brings out the best elements of the treenut. While these can be difficult to find in the United States, I HIGHLY recommend trying one if you have the chance.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Second best, we have another classic: the chocolate chip cookie. Fun fact: these were not officially invented until 1938! There are very specific elements that make for a good chocolate chip cookie. First, they must be warm. Second, they must be airy and fluffy. Thirdly, they must include a good ratio of cookie to chocolate. Lastly, they must have flaky salt sprinkled on top. I prefer these to be a bit on the crispier side, with a crunchy outer crust and gooey center. Despite these specifics, a run-of-the-mill chocolate chip cookie is also very good, which is why I included it so high on my list.
Tiramisu
Last, but definitely not least, we have my favorite dessert: tiramisu. Itβs creamy, soft, bitter, sweet, and oh-so good. If this is on the menu at a restaurant, you can bet I am ordering it with a smile on my face. Again, I have had my fair share of tiramisu. It can be difficult to get 100% correct. But, when executed perfectly, this dessert is the best on the menu and the market. To prove my point, I have included this data: Pubity, a famous Instagram page with 40 million followers, did a poll to find the best dessert in the world. The poll started with 32 desserts, like macarons, churros, cheesecake, and tres leches. In the last round, tiramisu and black forest cake competed. Tiramisu won with 72% of the votes.
I have to say, this blog post has been so incredibly fun to write. Getting to blab and yap about my favorite desserts is a delightful experience. If you have any thoughts or comments on my dessert ranking, please feel free to let me know. I would love to discuss this in more detail and argue why my ranking is correct. I put serious thought and consideration into this list, and I do not take this matter lightly.
If anyone would like to make me any of these items, please be my guest.
I hope you enjoyed reading this week! See you next week with something, probably a little less sweet.

P.S.
I'm walking 62 miles in the month of July for Planned Parenthood. I believe everyone deserves access to safe, affordable, and compassionate health care. As someone who advocates for survivors of domestic violence, I know how crucial reproductive health services are for physical well-being, safety, autonomy, and healing.
Planned Parenthood provides essential care to people in vulnerable situations, including survivors who may be navigating trauma, control, or fear. Their services are life-changing.
